Patrick Jern

I completed my PhD in early 2010, with a doctoral dissertation thesis entitled "Premature and Delayed Ejaculation: Prevalence, Heredity and Diagnostic Considerations", which the Rector of the Åbo Akademi University awarded the Harry Elving prize for the best doctorate thesis by an ÅAU affiliate. Having spent the year 2010 as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Dept. of Pharmacology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden under the tutelage of Prof. Elias Eriksson and Dr. Lars Westberg, I am currently employed at the Behavior Genetics Centre at the ÅAU through a post-doctoral researcher position funded by the Academy of Finland.

My work is primarily focused on sexual dysfunctions and behavior, but sports science and various other topics appeal to me as well. I am currently running my own project in collaboration with Juhana Piha (MD, PhD) with the aim of investigating the genetic etiology of ejaculatory disorders, assessing treatment alternatives (including pharmacogenetic interactions) for premature ejaculation.
