The center of excellence in behavior genetics at the Abo Akademi University investigates genetic and environmental effects on human sexual behavior and aggression. We aim to improve the scientific understanding of human sexuality and aggression.

The principal research method is the twin study; comparison of twins and their siblings makes it possible to draw conclusions about the effects of genes and heritability. For example, if identical twins are more similar than non-identical twins or common sibling pairs, there may be a genetic background to the behavior.

Moreover, we investigate the relationship between genetic differences and sexual and aggressive behavior by DNA analysis.

The research is funded by the Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi foundation and the Academy of Finland.
