Finnish Student Card
The Finnish student card is called
studiekort
in
Swedish and
opiskelijakortti
in Finnish, and is
issued by the National Union of Finnish Students
(
FSF/SYL
). To get a student card you have to be a
member of ÅAS.
In order to obtain the student card you need to:
• Pay the Student Union fee.
• Register at the university.
• Order and pay the card with an electronic
ordering form at
www.frank.fi/en(note that
a digital photo and a student number are
required).
It normally takes about three weeks to process
the cards. You have to collect your card from the
Student Union Office by showing the receipt
of the paid student union membership fee. The
Finnish student card costs around 15€. In the
beginning of the term while you are waiting for
the student card, the receipt of the paid student
union fee + ID can be used as proof of the
membership.
The Finnish student card proves your Student
Union membership and entitles you to all their
benefits. Every autumn your student card is
validated with a new sticker after you have paid
your membership fee. The card is not valid
without the annual sticker.
Note that the international student identity
card (ISIC) does not give you access to
subsidised student meals, or discounts in public
transportation in Finland. For this you need the
official student card issued by t he National
Union of Finnish Students (SYL/SFS).

Exchange students at the Åbo campus have
the right to take courses from the University of
Turku as well. In this case, you have to register
with the other university too. Students at Åbo
Akademi University wishing to take courses
at the University of Turku should follow the
instructions given by International Affairs. The
process of acquiring a student number at the
other university is handled via e-mail. Without
a student number for every university where
courses are taken, a transcript cannot be issued
for those courses.
