(

). To get a student card you have to be
a member of the Student Union of your host
university in Åbo.
In order to obtain the student card you need to:
1) Pay the Student Union fee.
2) Register at the university.
3) Order and pay the card with an electronic
ordering form at
(note that a
digital photo is required).
It normally takes about three weeks to process
the cards. You have to collect your card from the
Student Union Office by showing the receipt of
the paid student union membership fee. The
Finnish student card costs around 15?. In the
beginning of the term while you are waiting
for the student card, the receipt of the paid
student union fee can be used as proof of the
membership.
The Finnish student card proves your Student
Union membership and entitles you to all their
benefits. Every autumn your student card is
validated with a new sticker after you have paid
your membership fee. The card is not valid
without the annual sticker.
Note that the international student identity
card (ISIC) does not give you access to
subsidised student meals, or discounts in public
transportation in Finland. For this you need the
official student card issued by t h e National
Union of Finnish Students (SYL/SFS). We do not
recommend you to order an ISIC combination
card with payment function as it requires a
Finnish personal identity code. Instead you can
consider buying a separate international student
card via Kilroy. For more information, please see:

2.3 Exchange Students
University Registrations
Registration at the university takes place in the
beginning of the term at the International Office
in the Gripen Building in Åbo(Tavastgatan 13,
20500 Åbo) or in Academill in Vasa (Strandgatan
2, 65100 Vasa). Exchange students are advised
to register during the arrival days. Only students
registered at the university are entered into the
study register (Sture) and are authorized to take
part in examinations and receive credits. After
registering the student will receive a student
number.
In order to register the student must have paid
the student union fee. This fee can be paid
already before arrival or after arrival at a bank
in Finland. When registering, please note that
you must bring with you an official receipt of
the payment issued by your bank in your home
country or at the Finnish bank where you paid
the fee. The receipt must be saved for the entire
duration of the exchange. For more information
regarding the Student Union and the student
union fee, please see chapter 2.2.
If a student fails to register by 12 September 2014
for the autumn term or 16 January 2015 for the
spring term, a late registration fee of 35 euros will
be charged. Please note that this fee will not be
charged in case the student has been admitted
for a different period than an academic term.
Exchange students at the Åbo campus have
the right to take courses from the University of
Turku as well. In this case, you have to register
with the other university too. Students at Åbo
Akademi University wishing to take courses at the
University of Turku should follow the instructions
given by the international offices. The process
of acquiring a student number at the other
university is handled via e-mail. Without a student
number for every university where courses are
taken, a transcript cannot be issued for those
courses.
Many courses require online registration before
the start of the course. This is done through
MinPlan (
). If the course
information does not mention course registration,
no registration is needed. Note that some courses
