How to Travel


It is possible to travel to Turku/Åbo by flight, by bus, by train or by boat. In the following the different possibilities are explained.

By flight directly to Turku/Åbo

There is an international airport in Turku/Åbo to which you can take a connecting flight from Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen. When you book your flight, ask for the possibility to have a connecting flight to the airport in Turku/Åbo. This is the easiest way to travel. The airport is situated a few kilometers outside the city (15 minutes drive). The bus nr 1, from the Airport to the harbour, passes by the Hotel Scandic Julia. You can also get off the bus at the Market square; it is a short walking distance to the Hotel Scandic Julia, to the Centro Hotel and to the university guest house Domus Aboensis.

Via Helsinki/Helsingfors

If you travel via Helsinki and you do not have a connecting flight to Turku/Åbo, the easiest way to travel from the Helsinki-Vantaa-airport to Turku/Åbo is to take a long-distance bus. The price for a single ticket is about 28 EUR and the ticket can be bought on the bus. Please look for the so-called Express Buses with a sign stating Turkuun or Turku outside the airport. Please note, that you usually change buses in Espoo/Esbo (some 20 minutes after departure from the airport). The driver will inform you of this and help you with your luggage.
The connections are frequent and the journey between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and Turku/Åbo takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

If you travel to Helsinki/Helsingfors by boat (e.g. from Estonia), you can catch a train or a bus from Helsinki/Helsingfors to Turku/Åbo. The trains run approximately every other hour (with a longer break around midnight until early morning). Information about train timetables can be found at http://www.vr.fi/eng/

Via Stockholm

If you travel to Turku/Åbo via Stockholm, you can take a connecting flight or one of the four daily ferries by Viking Line or Tallink Silja Line.
