"NUrope XIII 'Ukraine: Interrupted Histories Continue' aims to introduce contemporary Ukraine, especially to Western participants. The voice will be given to the thinkers, writers, philosophers and artists – to tell the history of Ukraine and its complex interpretations in the present.

Although Ukraine is still affected by a heavy and oppressive practice in the arts, its vivid cultural tradition has no counterpart in Western Europe. We invite you to have a look at both classical and modern Ukrainian arts; walk the route of 'The Man with a Movie Camera', visit the house of Mikhail Bulgakov and discover the footsteps of his novels' characters; in short, to get to know the secrets of Kiev and its prominent citizens.

One can't talk about cinema or theater without watching it. The programme comprises important films and modern video-works, a visit at the National Opera House as well as smaller contemporary theatres. The local art scene – which lacks comprehensive national cultural policy, and where collecting art is a recent vogue among oligarchs – will be introduced by Ukrainian artists.

"No time should be wasted", as the Ukrainian saying goes, and so we encourage you to dive into the waters of Kiev's night life; a stage for alternative music and underground culture. After a few days in Kiev we go to the western part of Ukraine – its cultural heart: Lviv.

We are sure that you will see much more for yourself and beyond our program, since there is always space for a pleasant surprise or another delicious pastry... but even better – if you have the time to spare – would be to arrive some days in advance, to explore the city at your own pace.
You may even think to proceed further on your own: east (Kharkiv, Donetsk), or take the symbolic route south by the Dnipro River, which links Kiev to the Black Sea (Odessa and Crimea)
.

We hope that our Kiev Oasis will be enriching for both the guests and the hosts, and that the dialogues begun will continue afterwards and hopefully move on to practice."
