Travel

Turku is located on the south west coast of Finland, approximately 170 km west from Helsinki. It is the fifth biggest city in Finland, and often called the oldest one. Therefore, the connections to Turku are very good. For detailed information concerning getting to Turku, please see the City of Turku web site.

Here is however, a brief overview of the connections:

Flights: There is an airport in Turku located 10 km north from down town. For more information, see Finavia's website.

Train: A train trip from downtown Helsinki to Turku takes a little less than two hours. The schedules and the prices can be found at the Finnish railway company's (VR) website. The schedules can be searched at the link “VR Journey Search: Timetable, prices and tickets”.

Bus: A bus trip from Helsinki takes approximately two hours as well. The schedules and ticket prices can be searched at the Matkahuolto web site.

Boat: And it is even possible to take a boat from Stockholm to Turku. The trip takes 8-12 hours (because the boat makes a stop on Åland Islands). The two biggest companies taking care of the boat traffic between Stockholm and Turku are Tallink Silja and Viking Line. The schedules can be found on the web. Note that the boat companies web sites also give useful traveler information on Turku.

Accommodation

The participants are kindly asked to make their own hotel reservations. The City of Turku website has a list of hotels in Turku. There are links on the web site that give the information on the location of the hotel.
