Where to Go and How to Get There
One of the most important decisions you have to make regarding your language
practice is where you would like to go. The only requirement is that it
is an English-speaking country and an English-speaking community within
that (a Zulu-speaking community in South Africa wouldn't do). Different
countries have vastly differing requirements with regard to visas and work
permits and the like, and although the information below applies in 1998
it should be checked with the relevant embassy in good time before you
go. Students from this department have been doing their language practice
in different parts of the world for several years by now. You can read
their language practice reports in the Department's Coffee Room for ideas
on places to go to and things to do. You might want to go to Great
Britain or Ireland, or perhaps The United States.
Canada sounds like an exiting place, as well,
or why not go as far as you can and find yourself in Australia
or New Zealand?
