ÅBO AKADEMI UNIVERSITY
Studying in Finland
- student perspectives
I truly have to say that Åbo was one of the best experiences in my life. Most people, by the end of their
exchange, are ready to just pack up and go home, but that wasn't me. Sadly, I had to return home,
coming back with some memories which I will never forget.
In terms of Åbo Akademi University, it seemed to be themost rational choice for me, and it was a good
alternative to what many in the United States view as a normal exchange experience. If I went to a
typical exchange destination, such as Barcelona, Florence or Rome, I would be amongst other United
States citizens and I wouldn't truly be able to immerse myself in the culture, and it would be as if I was
just on an extended tourist trip. A fresh perspective, one which was genuine and not influenced by
American culture, was what I needed. And Finland accomplished that.

I would recommend Åbo Akademi University to other students. You really looked after me and I always
felt safe. The community in Åbo was very honest and trusting which made it a perfect place to live
and study. The Åbo Akademi staff were more than helpful and all my Professors were great. I learned
so much I would not have been able to learn at home.
