Steps in Acquiring a Computer to Turku

On July 27 B. Nikander (Pargas K.), L. Tossavainen (Neste), P. Kaarnisto (Sampo) were added to the working group.

During the summer the group planned a computing center based on IBM 650.

The founding meeting of Matematiikkakoneyhdistys, Sept 14th, was chaired by V. Valavaara (Huhtamäki). Founders were TY, Stift. ÅA, Pargas K., Sampo, Huhtamäki, Neste, Kaup. Kesk. Vak., Verdandi, IBM
and later Turun Kaupunki, Raision Teht., Turun Kauppakork., (1960) with Tanner (Neste) ch., Lassenius v.ch., Laurikainen sekr.

New working group Laurikainen ch., Rantanen, N. Numminen (Turku), Kaarnisto, Nikander, Räisänen sekr. found IBM 650 too expensive. Other computers were evaluated.
