ISSN Compact

The ISSN Register on CD-ROM contains some 730,000 periodicals from 180 countries in 144 languages, with over 40,000 new entries and 60,000 updates per year. Includes the List of Serial Title Word Abbreviations.

The records of the ISDS Register allow identification of serials through the ISSN and through the corresponding key-title. The bibliographic records can be searched using varous criteria: ISSN, key title, variant title, abbreviated key title, UDC, Dewey, place of publication, start and end date, publication status, frequency, country, ISDS Centre, language type, keyword, or any combination of these elements.

The International Serials Data System (ISDS) is a world-wide network responsible for the assignment, registration and control of ISSN and for the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive register of world serial publications. The ISDS network consists at present of more than 50 National and regional Centres coordinated by an International Centre, situated in Paris. ISDS is also the maintenance agency fo the List of serial title word abbreviations.

How to use the ISSN Compact database

The database is located on a CD-ROM server situated at the Computing Centre. It is available from PC:s connected to the network at Åbo Akademi University. The search program is a DOS program. There is no Windows version of the search program, but it can be run under Windows 3.1x.
