The final programme is now ready! You can download it from here:
The successful tradition of Young Scientist Forum is continuing, this time for the first time held in Turku on the well-known Kakola hill, which once was the home of prisoners. The symposium has the goal to present on-going and recently finished PhD thesis works in catalysis and to promote the interaction between the key players in catalysis in our country. Contributions from all sub-fields of catalysis are very welcome: homogeneous, heterogeneous, enzymatic and polymer catalysis; presentations covering aspects from theoretical chemistry to material science and chemical engineering. The symposium programme consists of keynote lectures, a prize winner’s lecture (the Prize for best doctoral thesis in catalysis for years 2019-2021 will be announced) and oral presentations of PhD students, followed by a poster session. After the symposium, the annual meeting of Finnish Catalysis Society will take place in the same facilities. The relaxed networking will continue during dinner at the river shore, where also a large sauna is available.
All
PhD students, their supervisors and other researchers in the field of
catalysis in Finland are cordially welcome!
Please register to the event latest on 15th of March. Provide the title
of your presentation and few highlights in the registration form from

The new Aurum building of the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University on the University Hill has been completed. The significant chemistry cluster in Aurum promotes collaboration in research and teaching and, at the same time, the boost to the industry benefits the regional partners. Environmental efficiency has been taken into account in all solutions at Aurum, such as in the materials and use of space. Solar panels have been installed on the building’s roof and geothermal energy is used in heating and cooling. Aurum consequently received a BREEAM environmental certificate with the classification Excellent in the development phase as a first campus building in Finland.
We start the YSF2022 on the ground floor restaurant at 09:00 a.m. Address is: Henrikinkatu 2, 20500 Turku (map link). After breakfast, we will walk through the laboratory facilities as well as office and working spaces, before we transfer towards Kakola.
The
young Scientist’s forum will be organized on the restaurant located
on Kakola hill, Kakolanmäki. The hill of Kakola has undergone a
remarkable change since the times when the main building served as a
notorious prison. Kakolanruusu, “the rose of Kakola”, was one of the
first businesses to start in the area. It first opened its doors as a
pop-up restaurant on May Day, 2017.
May Day 2019 started a new era for the Rose. The former kitchens made of
shipping containers and outdoor grill oven has remain in history, as a
new kitchen is put to use in new top-notch facilities in the Yöselli,
“night cell”, building.
The lunch will be offered as a "feast". All portions at Kakolanruusu are to share. This way the whole table participates in the dining experience. Sociable, unformal and fun! In the registration form, please specify your diets and allergies, so that the chef is well prepared for diversity in the design of dishes.
A brewery, bakery and coffee roastery complement the range of services in the area wonderfully. Their products are being served also in Kakolanruusu.
Rantakerttu is located just next to the legendary Föri ferry, with which you can take a free ride over the river, and in the vicinity of the new but already legendary Funikulaari. Lets hope it works on this day! A The dinner will take place in the cellar of Rantakerttu, called satamakapakka Hunsvotti. After dinner, networking can continue either at the bar or in the large reserved sauna in the same building. Address: Läntinen Rantakatu 55 (map link )
