Perspectives to religion and religious education in schools

Kerstin von Brömssen, Göteborg University

In current educational research dealing with diversity, i.e. 'multicultural education', religion as a phenomenon has been fairly absent. the aim of this paper is to discuss religion as one of several important dimensions related to young pupils' identification and identifying processes in a multi-ethnic school. how and when does religion fit into the contemporary Swedish school and what happens with religion in this environment? The research is part of the project "Gender and Ethnicity in text and practices - Interaction and Interpretation of Educational Texts" with funding from the Swedish research Council.
