Mission
Sustainable
production means utilizing renewable resources as raw materials, clean
and efficient processes where the amount of by-products has been
minimized, biodegradable end products, as well as the controlled
processing of emissions. Chemistry, chemical engineering and materials
and process technology are the key scientific areas when striving for
an ecologically sustainable production. Reaching the goals requires
strong scientific and technological know-how, which has developed in
the region in the long term, step by step. The northern Baltic Sea
region's universities represent a high international standard in basic
and applied research and they have traditionally strong ties to
business life, as well as vast experience in cross-disciplinary
co-operation with each other and the regions industries.
Experience
has shown that in addition to the pan-European co-operation, the
co-operation and interaction between the Nordic and Baltic countries in
the Baltic Sea region has a special role and mission. People in the
region are characterized by being work centered, honest, law-abiding,
highly educated and by having a strong affection for nature and by
respecting ecological values, also in practice. The scientific and
technical innovations of the region set an example for the rest of the
world. As excellent examples serve the control of emissions and the
innovations related to biofuels.
The
mission of the workshop is to promote sustainable chemistry and process
technology in the Nordic Baltic sea region both scientifically and
technologically through joint research, postgraduate education and the
integrated use of expensive research equipment. The mission requires an
international and cross-disciplinary collaboration between chemists,
chemical engineers, physicists and materials scientists.
