McGraw-Hill Multimedia Encyclopedia of Science & Technology

The McGraw-Hill Multimedia Encyclopedia contains articles and illustrations from the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 7th Edition and scientific terms from the McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 5th Edition as well as additional material created especially for this CD-ROM.

The information stored on the CD-ROM is organized into the following databases:

• Animations: Contains 39 animations to demonstrate difficult concepts.
• Biographies: Contains biographies of 250 important people in the history of science and engineering.
• Dictionary: Contains a 105,100 word dictionary of common scientific terms.
• Encyclopedia: Contains 7300 articles.
• Illustrations: Contains 550 illustrations.
• Maps: Contains 22 geographic maps with almanac data.
• Sky Maps: Contains 45 sky maps and constellation maps.
• Study Guide: Contains curriculum outlines with appropriate articles for student instruction in 6 disciplines: biology, chemistry, engineering, geosciences, health sciences and physics.

In addition to these databases, the McGraw-Hill Multimedia Encyclopedia also includes narrations to accompany all animations.

How to use the McGraw-Hill Multimedia Encyclopedia

The disc is located on a CD-ROM server situated at the Computing Centre. It is available from PC:s connected to the network at Åbo Akademi University. The search program is for Windows environment, and it is in English.

There are public PCs in the Main Library, the Axelia Library, the Biocity Library, and the Library of Economics and Business Administration that can be used for searching in the McGraw-Hill Multimedia Encyclopedia.
