The 27th Finnish Summer School on Probability TheoryThe 27th Finnish Summer School on Probability Theory will be arranged at Åbo Akademi University in Åbo/Turku from June 6th to June 10th, 2005. The course program is mainly made up of four series of lectures, about 6 h each. A couple of lectures by some of the course attendants may also be held. The school is arranged by The Finnish Graduate School in Stochastics. The venue is Åbo Akademi Arken . The summer school begins on Monday June 6th at 12 noon with lunch. The school ends on Friday June 10th around 1 p.m. Registrations are due by May 27th 2005. The course fee (15 €), which includes course material, is to be paid on location. Social ProgramAn excursion to Naantali is planned for Wednesday.Thesis defenceFGSS student Niclas Carlsson, M.Sc., currently at er Capital Management, Vasa, will defend his thesis "Markov Chains on Metric Spaces. Invariant Measures and Asymtotic Behaviour" on Friday, June 10, at 2 p.m. in Auditorium Ringbom, Axelia II building, Biskopsgatan 8. Faculty opponent is Dr. Örjan Stenflo, Docent at the University of Stockholm. The defence will be conducted in Swedish.
