Current research
My research is focused on contemporary esotericism. In particular, I am interested in how late modern, post-secular societal change affects esotericism. The study of contemporary phenomena demands novel theoretical and methodological approaches, and I am thus also engaged in integrating sociological theory and method into the historical study of Western esotericism. I am also interested in exploring new and “alternative” fields of religious life and exploring the function of religion as entertainment and pastime – with a specific focus on popular culture.
