Inna Lindgrén

MA, doctoral student; Department Assistant

Inna is preparing a doctoral thesis on the topic of implied readers in colonial and postcolonial literature, particularly Kipling and Rushdie. She is interested in the communicative process between the author and the reader in cross-cultural contexts and in the way audience expectations shape writing. One of the questions she will try to answer in the course of her research is whether writers of the postcolonial period are indeed able to direct their texts at hybrid audiences in a way that is significantly different from colonial writers or whether authors who choose to write in English simultaneously choose to only address Western readers. The theoretical background to Inna's research comes from literary pragmatics, hermeneutics and postcolonial theory.
